This article covers the main differences between Omron's 3G3MX2-V1 models and our new 3G3MX2-V2. Please note that we are only covering the main differences here and if you require further information or more details about a specific function or application, we recommend contacting your local Omron office or representative for further support or you can use this link to obtain our contact details.

Dimensions

Exactly the same dimensions between the 2 models

Safety

  • MX2-V1 has a SIL2 rating and is able to achieve a maximum of PLd
  • MX2-V2 has a SIL3 rating and is able to achieve a maximum of PLe
    • Note that EDM is required to be implemented when using safet function

Operator Panel

  • MX2-V1 has a 4 digit display with indicators, buttons to navigate parameters, start/stop and enter.
  • MX2-V2 has a 5 digit display with indicators, buttons for start/stop and cycle through parameters areas and a jog wheel to cycle through the parameters quicker.

Encoder input

  • MX2-V1 has only one channel that is 32kHz counter, channel B is only used to detect the direction in the low frequency area (below 2kHz).
  • MX2-V2 has both channels, A & B, as a 32kHz input

Wiring

Although the names are still the same for the terminals between both models, they had to be redistributed.

EtherCAT Option

The existing EtherCAT option unit has been fully tested with the MX2-V2 models and operation is the same. Only difference is that when mounted on the MX2-V2 models the depth is 1cm more than with the MX2-V1 models.

Parameters

It is virtually the same between botht models, with the exception of only a few parameters that have either been removed and/or added. You can still copy the parameters settings from MX2-V1 and copy across to MX2-V2 models.

Below is a list of the parameter changes.

Frequency Matching

This feature has been removed for the MX2-V2 models. This can cause issues with mixing, centrifuge and fan applications. Please check with your local Omron office or representative if this is of concern.
