Setting the IP Address of the NX-EIC202

The NX-EIC202 supports three main methods for assigning an IP address. The most common method is by the rotary switches and (in some cases) the DIP switch (pin 4).

1. Using Rotary Switches (Quick Setup)

This method is useful for simple, fixed addressing without software. Setting the IP via rotary switch will result in the device assuming the default subnet mask (255.255.255.0).

Configuration:

  1. Set rotary switches between 01 and FE (hex)

  1. Use DIP switch 4 to select subnet:
DIP Switch 4 IP Range
ON 192.168.1.xxx
OFF 192.168.250.xxx

The last octet is determined by the rotary switch value (in decimal)

Example:

Rotary = 1C (1C hex = 28 decimal)

IP = 192.168.1.28 (DIP switch 4 ON)

Important

IP is only read on power-up → requires a restart after changes

2. Using Network Configurator (Software Method)

This is is the most flexible method.

Steps:

  1. Set both rotary switches to 00 and power on the unit
    Default IP will be:
    192.168.250.1 (DIP switch 4 OFF)
    192.168.1.1 (DIP switch 4 ON)
  2. Connect using Network Configurator
    1. Open Tools → Setup TCP/IP Configuration
    2. Read current settings from the device
    3. Enter the desired IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway
    4. Write the settings back to the device
  1. Restart the unit for changes to take effect

Note

  • Only one device should be connected when assigning IPs
  • The unit may automatically restart after applying settings
  • Incorrect targeting can result in configuring the wrong device

3. Using BOOTP Server (Automatic Assignment)

This allows dynamic IP assignment from a BOOTP server.

Note

There is a potentially significant difference between operation between the two BOOTP setting methods.

a) Via Network Configurator

  1. Set rotary switches to 00
  2. Enable “Get IP address via BOOTP server”
  1. Click Set to the Device
  2. IP is assigned once on next restart

b) Via Rotary switches (Rotary = FF)

  1. Set rotary switches to FF
  2. IP is assigned every time the unit restarts

Considerations

  • Device MAC address mapping must be registered in the BOOTP server
  • Timeout occurs if no IP is assigned within ~60 seconds, the unit will continue retrying until successful.
  • An illegal IP setting value from the BOOTP server will cause an error
