When using a Direct Ethernet Connection to connect to a PLC, you may find that you are unable to connect to the PLC. The Network Browser may show the following error message.
“The OMRON Ethernet Direct Connection Manager service is starting in Safe Mode because Windows APIPA is enabled. (0x82020003)”
There are many possible causes for this error, and it can be difficult to pinpoint why this error is occurring. Regardless, this is usually caused by the installation conditions of the Communications Middleware Utilities.
Suggestions To Resolve The Issue
- Disable the direct Ethernet connection function using the Direct Ethernet Utility, restart your computer, then re-enable the direct Ethernet connection Function. Ensure the correct ethernet adapter is selected once you have re-enabled the function.

- Run the Microsoft “.NET Framework Repair Tool” found on the Microsoft website.
- Reinstall .NET Framework.
- Completely remove and reinstall CX-One and Sysmac Studio software. Details of this process can be found here.
