DX100 Ethernet/IP Quick Setup Example

This article aims to illustrate how to quickly set up a dashboard using the DX100 using Ethernet/IP. We will be reading data from a NX1P2 and displaying the data as a dashboard using Grafana which comes preloaded onto the DX100.

For other protocols e.g MODBUS/FINS etc please refer to the manual.

Set up Data to be Read in Sysmac Studio

  1. Set the Variables you would like to be read to “Publish Only”.

  2. In the top ribbon click Tools → Export Global Variables → CX-Designer this will copy your global variables to your clip board. 

  3. Open up your favorite text editor and paste the copied variables then save the file in a safe location we will need this for later.

 
 

Set up your DX100

1. Connect your PC to the Port 1 on the DX100 via Ethernet and set your IP address to the to match the IP range of the DX100 range

2. Open your web browser and enter the IP address in the URL bar 
The default address:
Port 1:  192.168.250.100

3. You should be taken to a webpage with the following login window:

Use the following default admin account:
User ID: DFCadmin
Password: omron

4. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete your initial setup

5. Set the application to operating mode

 
 

Setting up SpeeDBee Synapse

1. Enter [DX1 IP Address]/synapse into the URL bar of your browser e.g. 192.168.250.100/synapse

2. Enter the default login details 
Login ID: admin 
Password: admin

3. If the language is in Japanese use the following button to set the language to English:

4. Set the system to edit mode with by clicking the mode selection drop down in the top right corner of the screen

5. Click the + button to add another panel

6. Open the collector tab on the left and drag the Ethernet/IP Collector into your newly created panel

7. Give your collector a name, type your PLC's IP in Host field

8. Click Auto Variable Setting and then in the popup select the text file you exported from Sysmac. The variables will populate please ensure your data type and array sizes are correct

9. Test your connection using the make sure you are receiving the correct data by following these steps
 I.Click Start 
II.Expand the bottom bar 
III.Click an output point on your node then 
IV.Select latest data in the bottom data display.

10. You should see your data refresh. New data is displayed in pink.

 
 

Generating a Grafana Dashboard

1.Enter [DX1 IP Address]/synapse into the URL bar of your browser e.g. 192.168.250.100/synapse

2.Change SpeedBee to Edit mode

3. Click the Gear Icon and click Grafana Setup

4. Click Auto Setup

5. Enter the your username and password for Granfana
Default username - admin
Default password - admin

6. Click Setup and the API Key will be generated

7. Click Test and confirm the connection is successful before saving

8. Select your component for data you are using and the chart type you would like to display each data point at.

9. Press yes on the confirmation screen.

10. This will open a access token setting window. Give it a token name and a desired expiration time.

11. Press yes on the next confirmation screen.

12. Set the project to run mode and click the graph button this will open up Grafana

13. Click Dashboards → SpeeDBee Synapse →  the name of your Dashboard NX1P2 in our example

14. Your generated dashboard will be displayed.
