E3AS-HF Teaching
E3AS-HF Time of Flight Sensor
Introduction
Conventional reflective photoelectric sensors with a shorter sensing distance are only used in limited applications since their detection performance varies with the colors and shapes of detected objects. The E3AS-HF is a perfect reflective photoelectric sensor model that can solve the conventional problems.
This article goes through the procedure to teach the sensor the sensing distance.
2-point Teaching
Use this mode when you want to perform teaching using the two points of the object and background.
- Press the ‘T’ button quickly without any objects (press for longer than 25ms, but shorter than 1s).

- Press the ‘T’ button quickly with an object (press for longer than 25ms, but shorter than 1s).

- Threshold setting after teaching is completed. Note that the threshold value is set at a distance between background and object.

Notes:
- [Single] is selected automatically for the output switch point mode.
- Setting is no problem even if user operations with an object and without any objects are performed inversely.
- Teaching can be canceled by pressing the “UP” or “DOWN” button.
Object teaching
Use this mode when you want to detect a short distance including an object with a single press of a button. It can be executed if object teaching selection is set to [Object].
- Press the ‘T’ button quickly with and object (longer than 1 second, but less than 5 seconds). Release the button when [Object Teach] is displayed on the display.

- Threshold setting after teaching is completed. The threshold value is set on the near side to the object.

Notes:
- If teaching is performed without a detected object or background, the maximum detection value (6000mm) is set as the threshold.
- Margin is set automatically to the optimal value depending on the received light intensity.
Background Reference Teaching
This is suitable for when you want to detect an object that is not stable (mirror-surface, level difference, or low reflectance) in object teaching.
- Press the ‘T’ button quickly with a reference background (longer than 25ms, but shorter than 1s).

- Press and hold the ‘T’ button with a reference background (longer than 1 second, but less than 5 seconds). Release the button when [Reference Teach] is displayed on the display.

- Threshold setting after teaching is completed. The threshold value is set with ± margin to the background.

Note:
- Margin is set automatically to the optimal value according to the detecting distance.
Window object teaching
Use this mode when you want to detect an object within the range of two threshold values. It can be executed if object teaching selection is set to [Window Obj.].
- Press and hold the ‘T’ button with an object (longer than 1 second, but shorter than 5 seconds). Release the button when [Window Obj. Teach] is displayed on the display.

- Threshold setting after teaching is completed. The threshold value is set with ± margin to the background.

Note:
- Margin is fixed to 50.
