This article is written to assist in rectifying a situation where when setting up a V-430 Barcode reader you are struggling to get a successful read on your product.

  • Check if the image is appearing overly dark
    • Look at the exposure settings for the camera and try to gradually increase this
    • If the exposure time is fixed due to speed requirements, try slowly increasing the gain to obtain the same effect
      • Note: Increasing gain in an image will result in amplification of noise and reduces the quality/clarity of the image
  • Check if there is excessive background noise
    • Have a look at the per-processing filters that are available to aid in removing as much noise as possible
    • If you have the 5MP Model then also have a look at the colour filter and make adjustments
  • Check if there is light reflection causing any flaring
    • If the surface with the barcode is highly reflective then some flaring may occur from direct lighting
    • If mounting is unrestricted, try mounting the camera at an angle of around 15 degrees relative to the workpiece
    • If this is not possible you might consider the Optional Polariser (V430-AF2) or Diffuser (V430-AF1)
