Disclaimer

This article has been developed using CX-Programmer version 9.83 and CJ2M-CPU31 PLC. There might be slight differences in what memory is cleared between different series of PLCs, but the process will be the same. Note that if the PLC has only read protection you can still clear the memory, but if the write protection is enabled then you are not able to clear the memory of the PLC without the password to unlock the write protection.

  1. Go online with the PLC through CX-Programmer.

  1. Put the PLC into “Program” Operating Mode.

  1. From the Toolbar click on “PLC” and then select “Clear All Memory Areas”.

  1. A window will appear called “Confirm All Memory Area Clear”, here change the selection from “Do not initialize” to “Initialize”
    1. It is optional to clear the error log, but if you are looking to set the PLC back to default then you can select “Clear Error Log” as well.

  1. When ready click on “OK” and afterwards you should see the window below is successful. Click on “OK” to finish the Clear All Memory process.

  2. Make sure to power cycle the PLC system afterwards to make sure that all the settings on the PLC are initialized as well as some settings on the PLC are not established until after a power cycle.
